Date: 3 February 2022

PLANS for a development comprising a Lidl supermarket, McDonald’s drive-thru and Costa Coffee branch have been approved.

Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee made a decision on the reserved matters application for the site at Omega South at its Town Hall meeting on Thursday 3rd February 2022.

Outline consent for the proposed supermarket, drive-thru restaurant and drive-thru coffee shop was previously granted.

Members had been recommended to pass the reserved measures application subject to conditions.
The reserved matters part of the planning process requires the applicant to submit detailed proposals over the scale, layout, access and appearance of the development.

The mixed-use proposed site lies immediately west of Burtonwood Road roundabout and north of Whittle Avenue.
A total of 191 car parking spaces are included in the designs, with the Lidl supermarket having a floorspace of 1,900sq m.
The applicant for the scheme is Omega Warrington.

A motion to delegate the responsibility to determine the application to officers was proposed, with a recommendation that they include extra conditions about littering.

However, the motion did not pass after failing to get enough support.

Shortly after, a motion to approve the application subject to conditions, including an additional condition for a litter management strategy, was passed.
